The Helen Margaret Owen Foundation has reached a remarkable milestone - our community health outreach program has now provided free medical services to over 5,000 people in the surrounding communities! This achievement demonstrates our commitment to holistic community development beyond the walls of Kirinya Children's Centre.
Since launching the expanded health outreach program in January 2024, we have achieved:
- Conducted 12 mobile health clinics reaching remote villages
- Provided immunizations to 850 children under age 5
- Treated 1,200 cases of malaria and other common illnesses
- Screened 900 people for high blood pressure and diabetes
- Distributed 3,500 insecticide-treated mosquito nets
- Counseled 450 pregnant women on prenatal and postnatal care
- Trained 25 community health volunteers
"When we started this program, we never imagined we would reach so many people so quickly," said Health Coordinator Dr. Sarah Nambi. "The need was enormous, and our team has worked tirelessly to meet it."
The program has had measurable impacts:
- 70% reduction in malaria cases in communities where we distribute nets and provide education
- Significant increase in immunization rates from 45% to 85% in target communities
- Early detection of chronic conditions, allowing timely treatment
- Creation of a sustainable community health network through trained volunteers
This milestone was celebrated at a special community event where 500 people received free health screenings and 300 children received deworming medication. The Wakiso District Health Office has recognized our program as a model for public-private partnerships in healthcare delivery.
"This is just the beginning," promised Helen Owen. "With continued support, we aim to reach 10,000 community members by the end of 2025 and eventually establish a permanent community health centre."
